Calling All Communities to Celebrate Canada!
Posted on | June 25, 2009 | 1 Comment
The Government of Canada is encouraging communities to take advantage of Celebrate Canada! activities to foster community spirit, appreciate the wealth and diversity of Canadian society, and show pride in being uniquely Canadian!
Celebrate Canada! is an 11-day celebration starting on June 21 and ending on July 1 – Canada Day.
Each year, the department of Canadian Heritage provides FREE promotional materials to communities across the country that host public events.
Events must be inclusive to all members of the public and must not charge an admission fee to attend.
Items such as 3″ x 6″ paper flags, Canada flag lapel pins, maple leaf temporary tattoos, and bookmarks are typically available.
As well, communities may apply for funding to help plan, coordinate, and execute Canada Day celebratory activities.
The mandate of Canadian Heritage is to promote culture, the arts, heritage, official languages, citizenship and participation, and Aboriginal, youth, and sport initiatives. A volunteer committee exists in each province and territory to encourage the organization of activities and to support communities hosting Celebrate Canada! events.
While the deadlines for funding and freebies have passed for this year, communities, take note! Resources and funding are available to showcase your spirit and Celebrate Canada! in the place you call home.
