THE RURBAN FRINGE

Long Weekend Round Up: Frankenfoods, Helicopter-parenting and Rural War Life

Posted on | July 30, 2010 | No Comments

On the eve of a long weekend, I was pleasantly surprised by the random bits of interesting information that came my way today … and so, in lieu of a regular post, I bring you:

This food is just finean editorial from the Ottawa Citizen supporting genetically modified farming practices because, hey, those urban chickens and rooftop gardens can’t feed us all.  Support your local farms, but throw a ‘Frankensteak’ on the grill and become better informed on what it will actually take to feed a growing world population.

Helicopter-parenting our communities … the title alone made me laugh-out-loud as this humorous and well-said post shares what we economic and community developers are all too often guilty of … feel free to join in the discussion.

Rural war life focus of study … caught my eye as this project aims to offer glimpses into this moment in Canada’s history, but through a rural lens.

Have a great weekend, everyone.
